Boating is an exciting lifestyle that is good for the body, mind, and soul and inspires quality time with family and friends. If you have considered starting boating or have recently purchased your boat here are a couple of tips to get you on your way!
Get reliable information
A reliable source is essential to ensure you are well-informed about regulations and boating requirements. When it comes to your boat and Suzuki outboard, our authorised Suzuki dealers will gladly assist with requirements, accessories, and everything you need to get your boat on the water and ready for action. For regulations, contacting your local SAMSA officer or the organisation that assisted with your skipper's license is best. Alternatively, you can visit the SAMSA website.
Get experienced help
Driving a boat especially if you have not done so before can be tricky but nothing you won’t get underhand quickly. Spend time for an hour or so with an experienced boater on your boat so they may assist you with understanding the outboard trim, docking, and water reading, for example.
If you are planning on doing boating activities, it would be better to ask a skipper that has experience with skiing, diving, or fishing or whichever activity you would like to pursue.
Safety comes first
Now it is time to introduce your family and friends to the ultimate lifestyle of boating the right way. Explain the importance of water safety to your passengers, such as wearing a life jacket and keeping hydrated. Read our blog on Water Safety
Join the community
Getting involved in a community that shares your interest is not only a great way to meet like-minded friends but also an opportunity to get first-hand experience to advise and guide you. Boat and fishing clubs often have events throughout the year that will assist you in keeping an active boating lifestyle and get you out boating more. Enquire at the launch site you are using for information on the clubs.
Boating Checklist 101
Because this is a new adventure, it is normal to forget things, especially if you are rushed by the excitement of your family and friends. A checklist is key to making sure everything is in place and ready for a comfortable and hassle-free boating experience.
As time goes by the items on the checklist will become second nature and you will know you are an official boater!
We look forward to seeing you on the water!
