All the Suzuki outboard motors come with an Anti-Corrosion finish which is a special protection applied to an aluminum surface using high-strung bonding to protect the aluminum-made exterior parts. This consist of an anti-corrosion finish, a primer undercoat, a resin base coat, and a clear resin topcoat which assists to protect your outboard against corrosion and it increases the overall outboard durability.

However, here are some ways you can take extra care of the outward appearance of your outboard cowling.
  • You can protect your outboard against salt or build-up by rinsing your outboard after using it in freshwater as well as saltwater. You can use automotive soap to wash the cowling using a “shammy” or soft sponge.
  • There is a rubber seal that fits the upper cowling to the lower pan, this can sometimes get built up with old grease, dirt, or mildew. This seal always needs to be clean and soft as the sun may make it hard and brittle. This will cause this seal to be less effective in sealing the top cowling to the lower pan. There are several automotive products that can be used to ensure this seal stays soft.
  • All your cowling latches must be easy to move and seal the cowling correctly. Excess grease, dirt to salt build-up may cause these latches to be ineffective. Use fresh waterproof marine grease to lubricate the fittings and then ensure that the top part of the cowling fits snugly to the pan.
  • You can even go as far as removing the pan part of the cowling and cleaning it inside the pan. This tends to get dirty with grass, bugs, and dirt getting caught.
  • There are several outboard covers or mooring covers available on the market these days. These protect your outboard from dust and sun that causes fading and prevent flying debris from getting into your motor while towing. If your boat stays in the water, it will assist in keeping weather and salt off your outboard.
  • When you use vented outboard covers, you may run your outboard while the cover is on, thus offering 24/7 protection for your outboard motor. It further protects your outboard from scratches caused by hooks and lures while fishing or chafing by ropes in the mooring.

While Suzuki goes the extra mile in development and manufacturing to protect your beloved Suzuki outboard motor through our innovative technology, these tips may be of assistance to you in giving your Suzuki the extra care she deserves.
