Has it occurred to you that the computer won’t turn on just to find out the power is off at the wall? Or the sunglasses that is nowhere to be found and suddenly appear on top of your head?
It is no different with outboard motors, so don’t cut a perfect day on the water short because of something that you can easily address yourself.
We listed a couple of easy-to-follow pointers with the most obvious reasons why your outboard suddenly won’t start.
- Always make sure your kill switch is connected, your engines will cut out once the kill cord is disconnected as a safety feature.
- Make sure your outboard is out of gear, as it will not start unless it is in neutral.
- A pinched hose or not enough fuel in the fuel tank is a common cause of outboards not starting.
- Check the battery connection, to ensure that it is firmly connected. If all is in order, you would want to also check the power that the battery is supplying, to ensure that you have adequate voltage. Avoid leaving other electronics on continuously while the outboards are not running to avoid the batteries from draining should they use the same power supply.
- Check for water in the fuel line.
- In your smaller outboards, you would want to check the spark plugs.
- In your smaller outboards, ensure that your petrol tank breather is in the open possession and that your fuel hose is clipped in correctly.
Happy boating with your Suzuki!
