Penguins

There is something special about seeing an African Penguin in the wild. Standing along the South African coastline, watching these small black-and-white seabirds move between the rocks and the waves, it is easy to forget just how important they are, and how vulnerable their future has become.

The African Penguin is a species found only along the southern African coastline, making its survival a responsibility that sits particularly close to home. But protecting the penguin is about more than saving one species. It is about protecting the ocean environment they depend on, too.

That is why Suzuki Marine South Africa is proud to support SANCCOB as part of our ongoing Clean Ocean Project.

A  partnership with purpose

SANCCOB is a registered non-profit organisation dedicated to reversing the decline of seabird populations. Their work focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing seabirds that are sick, injured, abandoned or affected by oil pollution.

There is a story behind every penguin that SANCCOB rescues:

An injured bird brought in for treatment.

A young penguin that needs care before it can return to the ocean.

A pollution-affected bird given a second chance.

The goal is always the same: to get them healthy and, wherever possible, back where they belong.

For Suzuki Marine, this partnership feels like a natural fit.

We spend our working days around the water. Our products are designed to help people explore, enjoy and experience our oceans, rivers and waterways. With that comes a responsibility to help protect the places that make those experiences possible.

Through our partnership with SANCCOB, Suzuki Marine will contribute towards the organisation's vital work supporting seabirds, including the critically endangered African Penguin.

Suzuki Marine will make a contribution to SANCCOB for every outboard sold and for the period January to June this meant a contribution of R 24,500. It is a simple way for every Suzuki outboard owner to play a small part in supporting the protection and rehabilitation of South Africa's seabirds.

Rather than being a once-off contribution, the intention is to build a lasting partnership that can continue supporting SANCCOB and the penguins for years to come. And when we take care of the ocean, the ocean can continue taking care of us.
