The ocean gives us adventure, connection, and life. At Suzuki Marine, we're not just building outboards we're building a future where marine life thrives.
A Journey of Hope and Conservation
Our commitment to sustainability is exemplified through our ongoing partnership with the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation, where we have proudly adopted turtle number 12, a resilient loggerhead turtle hatchling.
This marks the third turtle adoption by Suzuki Marine, after Suzi and Zuki, a significant step in our mission to make a lasting positive impact on marine life. We are honored to be part of this vital conservation effort and are thrilled to share the journey of our newest hatchling with all of you.
Rescue and Recovery: Turtle #12’s Story Begins
This little Loggerhead turtle, rescued on Saturday, 15 March, was found stranded in Struisbaai by a dedicated member of the Turtle Rescue Network along the coastline. Thanks to their quick action, this tiny hatchling received the care and attention it desperately needed, bringing it to the safe hands of the Turtle Conservation Centre.
Since its rescue, the hatchling has grown from 7.3 cm to 9.4 cm in shell length, and nearly doubled its weight—from just under 70 grams to over 140 grams.
Despite its small size, this hatchling is full of energy—so much so that capturing a clear photo has proven quite the challenge. Its liveliness is a promising sign of recovery.
But we think that’s quite fitting for our brand, as we too are driven by energy, resilience, and an unstoppable drive to perform.
This growth isn’t just about size; it's a testament to the care and attention this little one has received at the centre.
Active and Thriving: Shinobi’s Progress
Our adopted turtle was named Shinobi, a name chosen by our social media followers. "Shinobi" (忍) refers to the Japanese word for "ninja" or "stealth". The “ONE” who is quiet in nature yet strong in performance with exceptional endurance. This name perfectly reflects the characteristics of our turtle hatchling. In the context of Suzuki Marine, it's used to name our "Stealth Line" of outboard motors and describes the quiet and powerful nature of the engines, which have always been known for their strong performance.
The journey from hatchling to the open sea is a difficult one, and not every turtle makes it. At this point, we cannot predict Shinobi’s exact wellness path or its eventual release into the wild. But we know one thing for sure: with continued support, expert veterinary care, and a nurturing environment, Shinobi will have the best chance of making a full recovery and returning to the ocean where it belongs.
Why We Care: The Bigger Picture
Our commitment to marine conservation through the Clean Oceans Project goes beyond crafting exceptional outboard motors—it's about protecting the waters and marine life we all cherish. While Suzuki Outboards deliver outstanding performance for every kind of boater, we recognize that these waters are also home to countless vulnerable species.
Our support of turtle adoption, in partnership with organizations like the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation, is more than symbolic. It reflects our core belief that responsible boating must go hand-in-hand with ocean stewardship. Through this initiative, we aim to raise awareness about the challenges marine life faces and highlight the vital role we all play in preserving our oceans.
