The outboard market in Southern Africa experienced strong growth in 2024, with 3,200 units sold, reflecting an 8.5% market increase, including exports and 2-stroke engines. Amid this positive trend, Suzuki Marine South Africa has excelled, achieving exceptional results and further solidifying its market leadership.
Suzuki Marine recorded sales of 1,605 outboards, equating to a commanding 50.2% market share and a remarkable 13.6% year-on-year growth.
Focusing on 4 stroke outboards sold in South Africa alone, Suzuki sold 1226 units over the course of the last year, making Suzuki once again the best-selling 4-stroke outboard in South Africa. This represents an impressive 18.5% growth compared to 2023, with market share increasing to 53.9%, up from 50%.
While the exact figures naturally vary from month to month, the DF100B was easily Suzuki’s number-one choice for consumers, with an incredible 239 units sold, accounting for 14.9% of all the outboards sold by the Japanese manufacturer in Southern Africa last year. The DF140 was the runner-up of most popular Suzuki outboards with 230 units sold in 2024. Notably, Suzuki experienced its highest growth in the high-horsepower segment (150hp and above), achieving a 19.4% increase in sales over the previous year. An interesting statistic is, that Suzuki Marine sold more DF300’s than DF6’s!
These accomplishments underscore Suzuki’s position as the ultimate choice for both recreational and commercial customers. Suzuki Marine’s customer service remains a key differentiator, reflected in a 94.4% Customer Service Satisfaction Score, highlighting exceptional after-sales support from its dealer network.
Tanja Maes, Marine Division Manager, expressed pride in the results, stating:
"Suzuki Marine is the clear market leader in 4-stroke outboards, and we are incredibly proud of the outstanding sales achievements of our dealer network. The results reflect a well-balanced sales performance across all engine sizes and a strong geographic spread, thanks to the dedication and resilience of our dealers."
Beyond the Marine Division, Suzuki’s motorcycle and automotive divisions also continued to perform well, with the automotive segment standing out for its rapid growth and strong consumer demand, further cementing Suzuki as one of South Africa’s fastest-growing brands.
Suzuki Marine South Africa’s success in 2024 is a testament to the hard work of its dealer network, the loyalty of its customers, and its ongoing commitment to quality and innovation. With a strong foundation and momentum, Suzuki looks forward to further growth in the year ahead.
