We are all unique and different and while some may enjoy the wind in their hair and the freedom of open water, others may prefer a quiet corner, with a cuppa and a good book.

It is scientifically proven that most people are scared of the unknown and therefore will not take on a new hobby or activity unless they are well-informed.

Boating is a lifestyle that can be enjoyed by everyone and of course, it will come as no surprise that you would like your partner to share your boating memories and experiences with you. So here are a couple of pointers to getting your non-boating partner on your boat and loving it.

Make it as comfortable as possible for your partner

Choose a calm day to take your partner out on the water. This will allow them to get their “water balance” and enjoy the beauty of the time on the water.

If you are heading out to sea, take precautions for seasickness. Getting sick out at sea can ruin the appreciation for boating, but luckily, several products are available on the market to prevent seasickness.

A big concern for non-boaters is usually also the bathroom facilities. Should you not have facilities onboard your vessel, plan your first trip to be brief as a mere introduction to boating or make sure that the boat can easily be docked for bathroom breaks.

Don’t assume

Always remember that your partner will not automatically know what they need to bring along for the trip, providing them with a little itinerary may just ease the unfamiliarity a bit.

Once again being new to the boating experience your partner may not know their way around the boat, rules, and your boating routine, keeping them informed throughout the process will make them feel more at home.

Make it special

You know what your partner's interests are, so it may be good to try and incorporate their interests. For example:

- For the foodie, get something interesting to eat onboard that compliments the boating experience.

- Take your fashion enthusiast for a boating wardrobe shopping spree

- For the avid bird watcher, have a bird identifying book onboard

- A cozy corner may do the trick for your bookworm

- Take photos for your social media influencer or enthusiast.

Boating is the ultimate lifestyle for you to enjoy with your partner…

Happy boating!
