1965: The Beginning
The story of Suzuki Marine began with the launch of the D55, our very first outboard motor. Compact and efficient, the D55 set the stage for decades of innovation to follow.
1966: Taking Suzuki Global
In just one year, Suzuki began exporting outboard motors, marking the start of our global reach and influence in the marine industry.
1979: Expansion of Production
Suzuki established the Toyokawa Outboard Motor Plant, a dedicated facility that has played a pivotal role in manufacturing high-quality outboards for over four decades.
1980: Revolutionizing Outboard Technology
Suzuki introduced its first Oil Injection System for the DT85, DT115, and DT140 models, offering superior lubrication and performance, setting a new standard in the industry.
1985: Pioneering V6 Engines
With the debut of the DT150 and DT200, Suzuki became the first to introduce V6 engine outboards, showcasing unmatched power and efficiency.
1987: Industry Recognition
The DT200 Exante won its first Most Innovative Product Award from the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), solidifying Suzuki’s reputation for cutting-edge technology.
1989: Introduction of V4 Engines
The DT90C and DT100C became the first Suzuki outboards to feature V4 engines, further expanding our technological capabilities.
1990: Electronic Fuel Injection
Suzuki introduced the Electronic Fuel Injection System with the DT225, providing improved fuel efficiency and performance.
1994: Suzuki’s First 4-Stroke Outboards
The launch of the DF9.9 and DF15 marked Suzuki’s entry into 4-stroke outboard technology, offering cleaner and more efficient options for customers.
1997-1998: Award-Winning Innovations
- Suzuki introduced its first 4-stroke outboards with Electronic Fuel Injection, the DF60 and DF70 (1997).
- The DF40 and DF50 became the first 4-stroke outboards to feature DOHC 4 valves per cylinder, earning the IMTEC Innovation Award (1998).
2000-2003: Redefining Performance
- The DF90 and DF115 featured the first offset drive shaft, improving balance and performance (2000).
- The DF250, introduced in 2003, was the first 250PS (184kW) 4-stroke outboard, earning another IMTEC Innovation Award.

Suzuki launched the DF300, the first 300HP V6 4-stroke outboard with electronic remote control, setting a new benchmark for power and innovation.
2008-2010: Lean Burn Technology
- The DF90A debuted as the lightest and most compact 90HP 4-stroke outboard, featuring Lean Burn technology (2008).
- Suzuki introduced a new generation of 4-stroke outboards with Lean Burn technology, starting with the DF40A/50A (2010), earning another NMMA Innovation Award.
- The Suzuki Clean Oceans Project was launched in 2010 to promote the protection and sustainability of our resources.

- The DF300AP debuted with Suzuki Selective Rotation, the world’s first outboard to combine regular and counter-rotation in one unit (2011).
