If you're looking for a quick day or weekend break with your boat in the Pretoria region, Roodeplaat Dam Nature Reserve might be the perfect choice. In a world filled with the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Roodeplaat Nature Reserve offers a peaceful sanctuary. Boating on the dam provides a tranquil escape from the stresses of urban living.

Located just north of Kameeldrift East in Pretoria, the dam was initially built for irrigation purposes. However, it was later transformed into a game reserve. The reserve is home to a wide variety of birds, approximately 250 species, and wild animals such as antelope, jackal, banded mongoose, blue wildebeest, and kudu, which makes this an ideal venue for birdwatching, game viewing, and a variety of water activities.

It is popular with carp anglers, jet skiers and boaters who enjoy an array of watersports, especially in summer. Among the most commonly found fish species in Roodeplaat are the barbel, which are known for their abundance, and the bass, which offer a great challenge to catch. Carp, canary kurpers, and blues are also present in these waters, providing an exciting experience for those who seek to explore the depths of this dam.

The Roodeplaat Nature Reserve welcomes both day visitors and overnight guests. The park offers multiple ablution facilities, including full ablution blocks in the caravan park. Throughout the park, there are various braai facilities, some of which are accompanied by lapa’s.

The only public launch site on Roodeplaat Dam is situated within the nature reserve. As a result, the launch site can get quite busy during peak boating season. It is recommended that you arrive early to ensure that you can launch your boat before the morning rush. The gates open at 6:00 am and close at 6:00 pm.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to discover the natural beauty of Roodeplaat Dam Nature Reserve and all it has to offer.
