You know the name. You’ve seen the iconic Suzuki “S” on transoms across South Africa. But there’s far more to Suzuki Marine than powerful, fuel-efficient outboards and great days on the water.
Here are 10 facts that show why Suzuki owners can feel proud of the badge on their boat.
Suzuki developed the world’s first Micro-Plastic Collecting Device for outboard motors. It uses discharged engine-cooling water to collect microplastics near the water’s surface without affecting outboard performance. It is a small but meaningful idea: compatible technology can help care for the water while the boat is being enjoyed. Discover the technology
Suzuki Marine ended 2025 with a record-breaking 55% share of South Africa’s four-stroke outboard market. In other words, more than one in every two new four-stroke outboards sold was a Suzuki. This points to strong local confidence in the brand and well-established distributor and dealer operations. Read more
Great products are only part of the ownership experience. In 2025, Suzuki Marine achieved a Customer Satisfaction Score of 95.6%. That relationship matters when it is time for scheduled maintenance, technical advice or help getting back on the water, often the moments when an owner values the brand most.
For the past 15 years, Suzuki Marine South Africa’s sales and marketing function has been run by a compact team of three women. Behind the market-share milestones, dealer relationships and customer campaigns is a reminder that a small, focused team can make a siignificant impact in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
The Suzuki Clean Ocean Project brings several actions together: shoreline clean-ups, efforts to reduce plastic packaging and partnerships that help protect marine ecosystems. For boaters, it connects ownership with a shared responsibility to leave launch sites, rivers, dams and coastlines better than we found them.
Suzuki introduced its first four-stroke outboards, the DF9.9 and DF15, in 1994. In 1997, the DF60 and DF70 added electronic fuel injection and earned an NMMA Innovation Award. That willingness to adopt cleaner, more efficient technology early helped shape the four-stroke range owners know today.
Selected high-horsepower Suzuki outboards use two propellers rotating in opposite directions. The design creates greater grip, balanced thrust, strong reverse thrust and improved stability. On a larger or heavily loaded boat, that can mean more assured acceleration, easier manoeuvring and power that is converted into useful propulsion.
Suzuki’s Lean Burn Control System anticipates the engine’s fuel needs as operating conditions change, then supplies a more precise fuel-and-air mixture. The result is improved efficiency across a wide operating range—helping owners spend less time worrying about fuel and more time reaching the places they boat for.
Suzuki motorcycles and marine products had an established presence in South Africa before Suzuki Auto South Africa opened as the brand’s dedicated local passenger-car company in 2008. The divisions were later brought together under one business in 2014. Suzuki’s local identity began on two wheels and on the water before it became the familiar car brand seen today.
Behind every Suzuki on the water is a network of dealers, boating specialists, technicians and marine partners. They help a first-time owner match an outboard to a boat, guide an offshore angler through a repower and support commercial operators who depend on uptime. That human network is also where knowledge is shared and South Africa’s boating and fishing communities stay connected.
Together, these facts show what Suzuki ownership is designed to deliver: efficient performance, dependable engineering, practical innovation, care for the marine environment and support that continues after the sale.
